Tallulah,
Lafayette, LA
Tallulah is a sweet, skinny young Catahoula girl in need of a miracle. She is in jail at Roicy-Duhon, an extremely high kill shelter that kills dogs in a gas chamber. We have gotten some wonderful dogs out of Roicy, and we would like to save Tallulah too. We have until 5:00 p.m. TONIGHT to rescue this nice young dog. If you can help transport or foster Tallulah, please give Mary a call!

Skooch, -puppy
Vancouver, BC
Skooch is a four or five month old Catahoula mix baby, a very cute pup. He looks a little grumpy in this photo, but that's because of the way he is being held... looks uncomfortable, doesn't it? Put him down or hold him right, and Skooch is a happy little wiggle butt. Skooch is in a high kill shelter in an area without many adopters, so he really needs our help! If you would like to foster or adopt this great little pup, call Janeen today!

Lucy,
AR

Lucy is our most recent mother and, now that her babies are old enough to adopt, we'd like to find Lucy a great home too. She loves to be outdoors in a secure area big enough to run and play. Lucy is a collector...she loves to find all sorts of "treasures" and bring them home, where she places them in her collection. She also loves to be indoors as long as there's a sofa or recliner where she can rest. Lucy is a very good dog who deserves a very good home where she can feel safe. Do you have the home for her?

Needs Funds/Adopter
Darla
FL
Poor Darla fell out of the bed of her owner's pickup truck and broke her leg. Her owner promptly took her to a veterinarian and told them to destroy her because he wasn't willing to pay to have her treated! The vets office called Catahoula Rescue, Darla was signed over to us & we are having the surgery done. She will have to have the bones fused together & pins put in for $900. Darla is a sweet ten month old puppy who loves other dogs & could care less about cats. The vet will allow us to make payments. If you want to donate to Darla's surgery you can mail a check directly to the vet or call the vet & give your cc# or donate through CRI Southeast's PayPal account. Please email me for the donation information, Darla thanks you!

Needs Sponsors/Virtual Fosters
Evie-hit by a car
Dallas, Texas
Update Sept 17th- Evie had a great check up with her new vet, and is off restricted activity! She recovered from her spay surgery very quickly, and is giving the Houlas (and cranky smaller dog) in her foster home a run for their money. Her energy and indomitable spirit is really showing through.
Miss Evie is a Catahoula female, about 8 months old. One day in June, Evie decided she'd had enough of being chained in her back yard. She chewed the chain apart and began to enjoy her newfound freedom. Unfortunately, she didn't understand that the street was dangerous, and was hit by a car. But fate was with her; a passing Good Samaritan saw her, scooped her up out of the street, and rushed her to the vet. Because Evie is still young, she's rapidly recovering from the fractured hip and pelvis she sustained. She has a foster family who's doing wonders with her. But they, and the rescuer, have been overwhelmed by the vet bills. Evie will be ready to go to a lucky new family in August, but she needs a sponsor to help with the final stages of her recovery. Despite the fact that she's almost all white, Evie can see and hear just fine. She'll grow up to be a happy, healthy, normal Houla girl, and with those eyes and smile, she'll melt a lot of hearts. Can you help her (and us) with her medical bills?

Cash
North TX
Cash has had a very full life for such a young dog. As a puppy he was attacked by a coyote, and spent a good deal of time in recovery. After healing up, he and his Boxer buddy, Hunter, were the constant companions of their loving master. But the young man has gone away to school, and his parents sent Cash and Hunter to the shelter. So much for family loyalty, huh? Cash is about a year old, neutered male Catahoula mix. With his blue leopard coat, white blaze and chest, tan points, and blue eyes, he's quite a handsome boy. But he doesn't have long in the shelter. Do you have a loving home for this loyal, active

Archie (was Max)-Trained!
IL
Update Sept 10rd-  Archie is now in Foster Care.

Archie has finished his treatment and will spend 4 more weeks recovering in boarding.  At that time he needs a Foster or Adoptive home.  Rescue arranges and pays for all vetting. If you cannot foster Archie, but would like to be his virtual foster, you can donate to help cover his boarding expense while he undergoes HW treatment. Boarding for 6 weeks will cost $420. Rescue is paying $300 for the HW treatment.
Archie's foster parents moved out of the country.  We need to find Archie a new foster home or better yet a forever one!  This is what they say about him:
Archie
learns quickly, and should be treated gently since he is intelligent and sensitive. He has an excellent sense of smell, detecting before other canines pick up the scent. He is usually relaxed around boys and girls, wanting to be close, but not pushy. He's okay with both men and women. He is good with other male dogs, and his foster feels certain he will also be good with female dogs. He has learned playtime with other dogs and relax time. He is also happy playing by himself.   Archie is well behaved in the house. When left in the house alone, he has done no damage. He just naps until his foster dad gets home.  He walks well on a leash, and never barks unless there is a reason for it. In addition to verbal commands, Archie is learning hand signals for sit and down. He is 58 lb and about 25 in at the shoulder. He has a gorgeous leopard coat with tan trim and some interesting white markings. He has a sturdy athletic build. When running his body springs gracefully.

Sparkle
Southern IL (near St. Louis, MO)
Sparkle is a very pretty, friendly blue leopard girl who is about one year old. She has one glass (blue) eye and one cracked (blue/brown) eye. Sadly, the shelter staff thinks she's already had a litter of puppies. She was picked up as a stray and has been at the shelter for three weeks. She is good with people, other dogs and would probably only show mild interest in cats. One shelter volunteer says Sparkle always greets her at the front of her cage and happily takes a treat. She will bond strongly with whoever takes her home as she just loves attention.

Chief,
Houston Area, TX

Chief is just a baby, only seven weeks old. He was rescued from an animal control facility south of Houston, TX where he had been left in the overnight drop box. We pulled him as soon as we could, because we didn't want to take the chance that he would get sick in the shelter. He is currently in a foster home near Houston. Chief's foster mom says that he is a happy, healthy, out-going puppy. He is confident and playful. He's also a natural bobtail, so he won't be sweeping everything off your coffee table.

Lily,
Houston, TX area

This sweet, sweet dog is a Catahoula Boxer mix. She has almost starved to death, but she is still hopeful. The shelter volunteer says: Poor sweet Lily has been living the life of a shy stray. Which means she has been starving. Sweet, submissives like Lily slowly starve when they are abandoned. Lily is enjoying having a full bowl of food and is a great dog for someone to adopt who wants to truly help a dog in need of a good life. Lily is one of those wonderful dogs that will be grateful forever. Lily is in a high kill public impound. Lily is housebroken.

This pretty blue-eyed girl was owner surrendered with her friend Grommit to a city shelter because the owner was moving to Dallas. She is scared but wants to be friendly. She is about 18 months old.

Gromit,
Houston, TX.
UPDATE 8-24-07 This boy was rescued on Tuesday. He is very thin. We discovered that he had not been allowed out of his kennel for the entire week he was at the shelter. He was sharing the kennel with Lola, a female Catahoula that was turned into the shelter with Gromit. Lola had been eating all the food, so poor Gromit had very little, if anything, to eat while at the shelter. Considering what he's been through, he's doing great. As soon as he got out of the shelter, he rolled in the grass to get rid of the shelter smell. He ate a good dinner and then stretched out on a dog bed and breathed a sigh of relief. His foster says that now that he's out of the shelter, he's a happy, friendly pup that wags his whole body for attention. Gromit is in a fosterhome in the Houston area.

Because rescue was working on saving this boy, he was given a reprieve until Tuesday 8-21-07. He must have rescue commitment by that time or he will be killed. This sweet boy is at a high kill shelter in Houston, TX. His owner dumped him at the pound, and didn't even bother to tell the shelter staff his name. Every dog should have a name, so we have decided to call him Gromit, after the quirky, clever canine star of "Wallace and Gromit". Gromit's shelter listing says he's two years old, but he looks like a six month old pup to us.

Kat
Norman OK
Update July 23th- I've been at the shelter for 3 months now.  People come once in awhile to look at dogs but not very often.  We all come to the front of our cages and give them our best pleading look but so far none has come to get me. I keep hoping that one day it will be my turn.  Lucky for me the nice guy that runs the shelter likes Catahoulas so he's kept me a long time.  He tells me he kept Bray and Buster a long time too and eventually someone came to their cages and picked them.  So I'll be good and try to be patient but it's hard...you know?

She was owner surrendered because they live on a busy street and were afraid she would get hit. She is just 6 months old and the poor girl just needs a good home. She is already spayed and ready for her new home. She is HW negative also and good with other dogs. and good with other dogs. gs.

Durango - Well Trained
Denton, TX
Update Aug 26h-He has finally made it out of the shelter.  His foster mom says he's very well-behaved, has had some training, is calm but loves to play, and is very friendly.  He's currently being treated for a few minor medical things (shelter-related), but is almost ready for a forever home!

Buddy is an amazingly good-natured Catahoula boy with great manners and a sense of humor. The shelter staff tell us he is just the best dog, and you know these folks see a LOT of dogs, so that is high praise indeed. Buddy plays very nicely with all of the other dogs, even the small ones. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, down and come. You can walk with Buddy at your own pace, fast or slow: he's just happy to be strolling with you, and he keeps some slack in the leash, no pulling at all. Buddy will be one year old soon. He is up to date on his shots, heartworm negative, and already neutered: he's ready to come home with you today!

Safe in Foster Care with another rescue
Red
NC
Red was abandoned, along with his brother Louie, and has been fending for himself for quite a while. Red is a gentle giant. He is very timid, but warms up quickly when he learns he can trust you. Red should go to an experienced "dog home" where people have the patience and time to work with him and teach him to trust. Once he does, he will undoubtedly be a devoted companion.

Cammi- Blue-eyed Redhead
TX
Update Aug 13th- Cammi is in foster care in Houston. She has been to the vet for her shots and spay, tested heartworm negative, and started on prevention. Cammi is ready for her forever home! Her foster says she needs a little training, but is a wonderful, well behaved dog. She is crate trained and gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home.
What a beautiful girl! With her soft fawn-and-buff coat and striking eyes...one blue and one brown, Cammi is prettier than any Maybelline model. This poor, sweet girl has been at a small town shelter near Houston for over a month. Unfortunately, we just found out about her, and she has very little time left. Shelter volunteers say that she is very friendly with people and good with other dogs.

Rufus
MO
Meet Rufus! (ID 114131). He is a 10 month old neutered Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix. He is about 55 lbs and is full grown. He is currently in a foster home with other dogs and is doing well. He has great house manners. He is potty trained and is very good about just chewing on dog toys. He is crate trained, but does well loose in the house, while you (or other dog-buddies) are around. He likes to hang out on the couch with you and sometimes sleeps under it (if it's futon-style). He is a silly guy! He is very friendly and likes to follow you wherever you go. He likes to sit at your feet and rest his head on your foot. He is intelligent and responds well to obedience training. He has learned "sit" and is learning "sit-OK" for eating food! Food is his favorite thing in the whole world! He does well with most other dogs his size and loves "wrestling" with his greyhound foster-brother. His wrestling involves a lot of bark, but no bite. His female greyhound foster-sister gives him one evil look while baring teeth and he instantly worshipping the ground she walks on. Rufus is a special boy, likes to play rugby, but has a gentle heart. He is very handsome and very trainable! He would probably do great in an agility course. He is very food-driven and you can probably train him tricks with just petting and positive reinforcement. He is very affectionate and would do well with older children (he still has a lot of large puppy in him...but he is a gem!). If you think Rufus could be the companion-man for you, please contact Staci.

 Hank-Lost a leg
South Central
Update July 30th- Hurray!  A virtual Sponsor came forward and  paid for for Hank's vet bills!  You are an angel and we can't thank you enough!
Poor little Hank. His previous owner tried to get his injury taken care of but the expense was too much so they released him to the animal shelter, hoping for someone to rescue and care for him. The owner did not know how the injury occurred but something, a car or something heavy, crushed his foot. Hank spent a couple of days in excruciating pain, a swollen and badly infected foot and a high fever before he could be rescued and taken to a vet. The foot could not be saved. Amputation of the leg was performed and almost immediately Hank felt well enough to play and “hobble” around the pet hospital and enjoy all the attention given by the staff at the hospital. Now in his new foster home Hank is enjoying loving care and rehabilitation. He doesn’t seem to mind his missing leg and gets around well. This happy little guy, who won’t be so little when he is grown, will be a wonderful companion for a great home. But as you can imagine our vet bills are rising (Hank isn’t the only one in our program with special needs) so if you can make a donation of any size it would be greatly appreciated. And Hank thanks you. Thank you.

Goofy Boy (Now Buddy)
NC
Update Aug 6th: Buddy has been treated for heartworms and is ready to go to a home of his own.  Are you looking for a well trained boy?
Isn't he beautiful? Buddy is a super sweet three year old Catahoula boy who was rescued this week from a high kill shelter in North Carolina. Buddy was well trained in his past life: he is housebroken, and very obedient. He will sit on command, and go in his crate when told to. He even waits for permission to enter a room or go out the door! Buddy won't even get up on the furniture unless you invite him. If you do ask him to join you, he settles down and snuggles nicely. Buddy LOVES children, and gets along with other dogs. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations. He is lightly heartworm positive, but this can be treated easily by giving heartworm preventative medication, which he has been started on.

Oscar -Good Flyball Prospect
PA
Oscar is a super friendly, happy boy who loves to PLAY! Poor Oscar was dumped in the shelter yard at night. When the staff arrived in the morning, they found him, a bit confused, but wagging his tail, eager to make new friends. Oscar passed his temperament test with flying colors: he showed no aggression re food, other dogs or people, he is attentive and cooperative, just an all around great, smart dog! Oscar is estimated to be one year old. He does have a lot of energy, and would make a wonderful Frisbee or flyball dog. He is also a very loving wigglebutt! If you are looking for a happy companion, please contact Tina right away!

Erin
Houston TX
When Erin was found, she was completely green. They don't know what the green "stuff" was, but it took several baths to get it off. A volunteer saw her at an animal control facility south of Houston. Erin was so small ... and green ... that the volunteer went ahead and pulled her right away so that she wouldn't get sick at the shelter. Now we need to find a foster or forever home for this girl. Here's what the volunteer has to say about Erin: She has one brown eye and one blue cracked/marble eye. One ear is more forward than the other. She is very smart, very responsive. She comes when called and was already barking to go potty out of the crate just the first day I had her. She is at someone else's house right now and they were going to try to continue with the housebreaking. She was pretty fearless with my giant schnauzers. She was given parvo/distemper vaccinations last week. With those ears, Erin is probably a mix, but that bobtail is Catahoula. We're guessing her age at about 8 weeks.

What a great face! Chevy is a handsome two year old red leopard boy currently residing in the pound in Winter Haven, FL. The shelter director says he is a wonderful dog: laid back, good natured and friendly.

Hercules Pit
Carbondale, PA -  deaf boy
Hercules is UTD on vaccines and neutered, he also deaf. The shelter staff describes Hercules as a very sweet, high energy boy who just loves people. All drivers must be sure to have a tight grip on him at transfers because he is deaf, he can not be called back. Hercules will be traveling with a collar, leash and all vetting paper work. If you can help with any of the following legs, please include your contact information and vehicle description as well as which leg you are volunteering for. 10 minutes have been added to each leg for potty breaks.
