Safe But in Desperate Need of Fosters/Adopters

The Dogs listed here are in Temp Foster Care, Low/No Kill Shelters or in Boarding. Some are with owners looking to re-home them. If a Dog has been on Monday's Dogs for a month without interest, they are moved here in the desperate hope that someone will come forward and foster or adopt them.  By adopting/fostering one of these dogs you save 2 lives because it frees up space for dog in a shelter that needs to be pulled and vetted OR makes room for another dog in a no kill shelter that otherwise would be put to sleep.

 In need of foster/adopter
Dixie > -Purebred

TN
Update Sept 24th- Aside from Shorty none of the TN purebred Houlas have had any interest from Mondogs.  We are moving them all to the temp foster pages in hopes that someone will see and adopt/foster them.  They are all being fostered by one person and really need individual homes with time to spend with them.   We just don't have the space on the main page. :(
Dixie could be called a "Stealth Catahoula": she's a beautiful black girl with brindle trim, though you'll have to take our word for it, as this picture was taken in the shadows. Dixie is a high energy, full blooded catahoula. She has no aggression whatsoever. She loves to work and run. She is a little shy, but also very friendly and loving. She would benefit from obedience training. She was rescued by a breeder who is working with CRI to find her a home.

 In need of foster/adopter
Elan
,-Purebred
TN

Elan's nickname is "stick boy". He likes to carry a stick in his mouth, kind of like a toddler who walks around with a thumb in his mouth. If you throw a stick for him, he will retrieve it for you. He is good with other dogs and the few times he's been around children he has been O.K. with them. He's in a kennel made of cattle panels and he has never jumped out. His kennel is next to other adult male dogs and he has never fought through the fence with them. He has no hearing problems. Elan has not had much training but he's a smart dog and anxious to please. If you give him a job he would give his all. This is a very speical dog and his foster mom loves him dearly. She wants him to go to someone that will love him as much as he will love them. By the way he was named Elan because it means "friendly" in a Native American language.

   In need of foster/adopter
Sandy
, -Purebred
TN

Sandy is a pretty red leopard girl. Weighing in at about sixty-five pounds, she is the big sister to Shorty, Mandy, and Brandy. Sandy is very good with people and other dogs. When she first arrived at her foster home she was shy, but she came around very fast. She listens well and would like nothing better than to please someone. She has not been around very many children, but has shown no aggression to the few she has met. Like her brother and sisters, Sandy is not in danger, but she is kenneled out doors. She would love to be in a home with a family of her own.

In Boarding
Lucas,
Sparta, IL

UPDATE 09/24/07: Lucas is now safe at a boarding kennel. Though it's a very nice facility, he's looking forward to a home of his own. Could it be yours? Thanks to the amazing generosity of a recent Catahoula adopter, we're planning to transport Lucas from the shelter to a boarding facility sometime this week.
Lucas is a handsome, friendly boy who is between one and two years old. He has a really cool blue leopard coat with tan trim and white socks. He was picked up as a stray and arrived at the shelter on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007. The shelter volunteer told us there was a fatal car accident nearby involving an entire family, so the shelter is expecting a large number of orphaned cats, dogs and other animals who lived on the farm. This is bad news for Lucas, because this is a kill shelter with limited facilities. When the orphaned animals arrive, space must be made for them by adopting out or killing the animals in residence. Poor Lucas wants to live...won't you help us help him? If you would like to adopt this wonderful dog, or if you have a little "room at the inn" to foster him until we can place him in a forever home, please call Julia right away! Lucas will be forever grateful, and you'll be glad you did.

In Temp Foster Care
Bandit,
GA

THRIVING under TEMP foster care, NICE BOY Bandit is a Catahoula x Australian Cattle Dog cross, a handsome guy with a lot of brains and a lot of energy. Bandit is very clever and sensitive, and extremely people-oriented: it almost seems like he can read your mind, and anticipate what you would like him to do! When you first meet him, he might seem a bit shy, but he is just naturally cautious. Once you've been politely introduced, he will lean against your knee and give you a paw (or two!). But he knows life is too short to sit around for long, so get ready to be invited to play! Bandito has a whimsical playful side and he'll soon be sprinting around you, playing peek-a-boo, and rolling over to show you that even if he's strong and fast, you're the boss. Careful not to push you over, he might feint at you but won't jump up on people. He doesn't lose his sense of humor on his back, either, waving his arms around and 'talking' to you if you let him know what a funny boy he is. Bandit is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and housetrained. If you want a brilliant, funny dog who lives to please you, look no farther: Bandit is your man!

  In Temp Foster Care
Mirk, - Purebred
Idaho

Can't believe his owners just threw him away. STILL WAITING!! THIS IS WHAT HIS TEMP FOSTER MUM SAYS ABOUT HIM. WE NEED AN ADOPTER PLEASE. THIS IS A PUREBRED CATAHOULA This dog is outstanding! Mirk's age is estimated to be 18 to 24 months and he will be neutered before going to his new home. Energy level is moderate to high, although Mirk settles nicely in the house when asked. He is good with other dogs, but likes to be the boss. Right now he is living with several male border collies and one female border collie and everyone is getting along well...plus, they have the same energy level! Mirk is very athletic so will need an active home or possibly a working or sports home. He is not a nuisance barker and does not dig. He is very smart and an extremely quick learner. Some human will be very lucky to share their life with this dog!

Needs Foster/Adopter
Gracie (now Peggy)
Northwest TX
Update Aug 26th- Peggy is still in boarding, and is needing people badly. She has so much to give a person or family who wants an active, loving, intelligent Catahoula girl. Although she is safe, she needs to trade her chain-link kennel for the love and caring of a real home!

This pretty blue leopard girl wandered up to a house in a small country town. The homeowner loves dogs, and has kept her for a couple of weeks. However, the woman has more dogs than her limit, and a neighbor complained. Animal Control came Friday, and said if the dog isn't gone by Monday, they will give her (the person) a big ticket, and take the dog. This locality doesn't have an animal shelter, and the law allows them to euthanize seized dogs immediately. Gracie is about 15 months old, has beautiful brown eyes, and loves to play with her human. Her sad foster mom says Gracie loves to please, and eyes that will melt your heart.

Still In a Shelter
Bingo -Middle aged guy looking for a friend
NY
Update Aug 26th- Still needs a home
Bingo was on Monday's Dogs in February, he is still at the shelter. Bingo is a 7 year old male Catahoula with a troubled past, although none of the troubles were his fault. He was purchased as a puppy, then dumped at a shelter when he was a young adult. (his people were moving and could not take him). Lucky for Bingo, the shelter he ended up at did their best to find him a wonderful home. Which they did! However, after a few years at his new home with an older lady , her living situation changed (her son and his toddler moved in with her). Bingo was not happy about having to share attention from HIS Mom with the new arrivals, and did not welcome their arrival . Bingo NEVER nipped at this small intruder in his life. But he tried to correct what he saw as inappropriate behavior by growling at the toddler. His Mom decided she had to give Mingo up...so she returned him to the shelter she adopted him from. She was IN TEARS and unsure if she was doing the right thing...but she left Bingo, at 7 years old, at the shelter. Bingo is altered, up to date on his shots, housetrained, loving and loyal. He needs a home that will COMMIT to him for the rest of his life, where he can be "The King Of The Castle". Mingo is picky about his canine friends (some he likes OK, some he doesn't). Mingo needs a FOREVER Home, and soon. He has already spent too much of his life in a shelter!

Still In a Shelter
Iowa Boy
Marengo, Iowa
Update Aug 26th- I'm still at the shelter hoping I get a break soon.  It's loud and scary here and I don't like it very much at all.  I'd really prefer a warm bed and a human to love and snuggle with.
This guy showed up in an Iowa shelter. He is in a no kill shelter but they are full and need the room. He looks like he has a natural bobbed tail. So handsome!!!!me!!!!
The shelter says he's very sweet but scared.  CRI can help arrange transport to people that want to adopt dogs from out of state.

Needs Forever Foster
Buster - NALC Registered Senior
CA
Update Aug 18- BEGGING FOR BUSTER.. HE SO WANTS A STABLE HOME FOR HIS LAST SENIOR YEARS. THE OLDER THE VIOLIN THE SWEETER THE MUSIC. Guys he is over the puppy nonsense, ready to just hang out and be someone's friend. He still is active and can be reasonably so. I will take an adopter that will commit for the rest of his life or I will take a hospice foster.. until he dies I need a commitment. Buster is a sweet 10 year old Catahoula boy who has fallen on hard times. Buster was one of the beloved dogs of a young woman who ran into some trouble and had to move back in with her parents. Her folks didn't care for the dogs, and when she was out of town for a few days, they took her dogs to the shelter. Buster is safe with a temporary foster, but he needs a permanent home. Buster is a very mellow sort of boy: he has had basic obedience training, and is easy to work with. He LOVES children. Buster is a little choosy about his canine friends: he doesn't like other males or pushy, dominant females. Laid-back females are his companions of choice. Buster has a heart murmur, so his exercise requirements are modest. He would be very happy with a couple of walks a day and a fenced yard to explore. If you love Catahoulas, but could do without a high-drive dog who needs to run for miles and miles, Buster would make an excellent companion.
